“In
the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson
Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite
sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the
realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But
as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events
would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically
divergent paths.
Now,
twenty-five years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back to
Oriental for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave
shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they
imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that
forever changed their lives. As Amanda and Dawson carry out the
instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realize that everything
they thought they knew—about Tuck, about themselves, and about the
dreams they held dear—was not as it seemed. Forced to confront
painful memories, the two former lovers will discover undeniable
truths about the choices they have made. And in the course of a
single, searing weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead:
Can
love truly rewrite the past?”
Is
it the story that you will read if you have the book The Best of Me
by Nicholas Sparks, and this is a review that you can find on the
back of your book.
The
Best of Me sound like any other book by Nicholas Sparks, but actually
it is not, this book seems to be a story like Romeo and Juliet and
you will understand why right now when I will tell you a little bit
about the story of this amazing book.
Dawson
Cole is a 42 years old man that used to live in a small town in the
past and because everyone in his family expected that he will
commite a crime. The reason? All his family's generation were poor
and the members always got involved in some crime – murder, drugs,
etc. But he was always different from his family and he didn't care
about what people say or think – until he met Amanda.
Amanda
Collier was attractive and her family were different than Dawson's
family, they were rich and a really good family. She always had a
crush on Dawson, but she just realized that when her and Dawson
became laboratory partners and then she had the chance to talk to him
for the first time. However, it was easy to predict that the society
in 1984 would not accept the union of a noble woman and a man with a
questionable reputation.
Then
they realized that to stay together and have a relationship strong
they will need to fight and keep the love that they have they had to
keep each other alive. And they really tried even without assistance
from Amanda's family and the bad threats from Dawson's family. But of
course – when Dawson saw Amanda losing her future - he decided it
that would be better if they followed different paths. But is it
possible to fight with destiny?
But
it is only when Tuck Hostetler - mechanic in town that has always
been lonely - dies is that the ways of Dawson and Amanda return to
cross. Dawson went through a lot in recent months - especially after
having hit the doctor of a small town by accident and have been in
jail for a few years and he also have suffered many accidents at
work. Amanda is now married and has three children, but is not happy
with the life she leads. Now both have to go back to the city that
they started the passion from each other to meet recent requests for
a dear friend. And neither time is able to carry away a feeling so
strong ...
"The
Best of Me" is the first book by Nicholas Sparks that surprised
me with a emotional and amazing conclusion. The plot goes beyond a
noble romance between a girl and a poor boy who suffered the
consequences of a prejudiced society. Moments cliche were inevitable,
but the author has managed to build something that touched the heart
of the reader and show the importance of a love that has survived for
years and - surely - will survive many others.
It
was impossible to hold back tears during the last few chapters and
felt a pain in my heart when I realized the significance of the book
title. I can not comment on the meaning - it would be spoiler - but I
assure you, readers, will not be disappointed to unravel the mystery.
Sparks did a great job and showed the reason to win so many fans
around the world!
And if you this is the end, you are wrong! The Best of Me it is become a movie in 2014 and here is a interview with Nicholas Sparks on CBS.
I hope you guys enjoy it and read this book! So, now when you finish reading the book come here and comment what do you think about it!
See you guys,
Bia
